Release & Let Go

Autumn leaf cutouts used for letting-go writing exercise

Release & Let Go circle, Sutton Courtenay, 3rd September

As summer's harvest gives way to the turn toward autumn, this circle was built around a simple, honest question: what are you ready to put down?

We opened the space at The Abbey's library, with cypress, frankincense and clary sage moving through the room — scents chosen to ground and to give permission to release.

We began with a woodland guided visualisation, then moved into journaling — letting whatever surfaced find its way onto the page before it had to find words out loud. And we wrote some messages onto card leaves of things we wanted to let go of, to burn in the fire later.

From there, the energy shifted into movement: dance, to let the body move what the writing had already loosened (playlist at the bottom of this page).

Only then did we come to the craft — decorated oak leaves, kept as a small keepsake: proof that something was carried through, not just dropped. We closed with the fire ceremony, watching the card leaves burn — that particular quiet settling over the room that tells you something real has happened, the kind of stillness you can't fake. The evening closed gently, the way it needs to: everyone leaving lighter than they arrived, held rather than emptied out.

Not everything gets left at the fire. Some of what grew this year is worth carrying forward - painted, kept, and taken home.
